have to say i agree with ignatius -- though i'm not wild about the UAE's recognition of the taliban, and understand the opposition to this deal that springs from a skepticism about bush doing favors for friends.
but it bothers me that the dems are blowing their chances to be the REAL liberal party: freedom of choice, of thought, of speech, and even trade. again, i'm not espousing corrupt, nepotistic "free" trade policies the likes of which republicans have embraced for years -- i'm talking free and fair trade. the democrats could easily be the party of the globalized economy and all that comes with it: more education in both the classics and science and electronics. the party of the 21st century, in other words.
instead, we're a bunch of reactionist populists, just like the republicans. ugh.
