R. I. P.

one of the most dynamic, and important, teacher-scholars in the field of english studies passed on 1 march.

professor jim slevin was my mentor at georgetown. he changed my life on 9/11 -- we held class the following day and discussed the attack. he was compassionate, shaken, and searching for answers the same as us. he encouraged our grief and outrage, as well as our attempts to intellectualize that day's events or our refusal to do so.

it was on that day that i realized what kind of professor i want to be. what kind of person too.
