i've been visiting the iraq body count website since the beginning of the war in 2003, and i've come to rely on it for accuracy in tabulating civilian deaths due to the anglo-american invasion.
the numbers seem low: just over 38,000. but keep in mind that these numbers reflect the civilian deaths that can be absolutely and without question verified by media reports. what does this mean? that these numbers are probably low low low.
driving to colorado from chicago this past fall i listened to an npr program in which an academic described a recent census-like study that put the number of civilian deaths in iraq since 2003 at over 100,000.
while iraq body count is 100% accurate, i think the latter number is much more likely to be a true accounting of the human cost of this dispicable dispicable war.
