and perfectly exemplifies the stunning idiocy of conservatives.
boot believes that american journalists, on the whole, aid and abet the terrorists. how? by being loyal to their journalistic oath of truth and objectivity. he thinks that, instead, journalists should be loyal to their country, first and foremost. please, feast yourselves on the unbelievable stupidity:
"Having written for major newspapers for years, I have never found any Al Qaeda moles in the newsroom. What I have found is that journalists feel more bound by their duty to their profession than to their country and that their highest professional calling, as they see it, is to preserve a halo of "objectivity" by not choosing sides in any controversy.
No one working for the mainstream media today would refer, as Ernie Pyle did during World War II, to 'our soldiers,' 'our offensive,' 'our predicament.' Today it's 'American soldiers,' 'the military offensive' and (most damning of all) 'the president's predicament' — as if this were Bush's war, not ours."
i know, i know! we should have our journalists and academics sign loyalty oaths!
so. much. stupidity.

boot is an moron for many reasons, this included. But, i'd take his point and go ina different direction. I don't really dick cheney's fashion sense to be particularly substantive. Perhaps pulitzers should be awarded for journalists that actually cover things that are important. I don't pretend to expect them to be unbiased, but i do expect them to help frame a national agenda that actually helps the nation identify real problems. Not ties.
a good point, i'm sure. i too think pulitzers for fashion are dumb.
however, it's not as if there are only 10 pulitzers awarded and 8 might go to those who report on the fashion industry.
besides, the point you make is not the point boot makes. he doesn't care about pulitzers going to a fashion reporter -- he cares that the fashion reporter was mean to poor dick cheney.
What's wrong with Pulitzers for fashion? Elitist jerks. :-)
