Trachtenberg Out

wowsers. gw's president is leaving in 2007.

it's a shock, to be honest, and something that worries me. whatever faults sjt had -- and lord he had many, the bugger -- there can be no doubt that he transformed gw from a little commuter school where diplomats and career government workers earned extra grad degrees or certificates of study into one of the country's best universities. and people, don't go flipping through US News to find gw's rankings. overall we're listed as 52 or 53. but as someone who spent four years as an undergrad at foggy bottom and then 2+ as a grad student at georgetown, i can safely say the academic quality of gw is on par with georgetown. the only difference is that gw admits more under-qualified students if they have money money money.

sad to see sjt go -- but i hope gw can now select someone to push the school even further up the academic ladder.
