hmmm. so the film version of the da vinci code is getting panned. getting creamed. yes, the audience at cannes is a good bit more sophistimacated than your average american audience. but still.
don't get me wrong, i want to see it. but it looks as if ron howard has done it again: crapped up a perfectly good story in an effort to make something dinstinctly 'american', as if that's even possible or desirable in the least little bit.
the problem with ron howard is that he's never stopped being opie, or that ass from happy days.
this page from a salon.com review of "a beautiful mind" perfectly relates why howard is a fraud.

Actually went to go see the DaVinci Code tonight. While it wasn't great, i'm not going to say that it deserves all the negative press it's getting. I think part of the problem is that "the book is always better," and in this case, most everyone has read the book. But the casting was good, the direction and photography were well done, and some of the twists necessitated by wide reading of the book offered suspense. Not palme d'or material, but i'd give it a golden globe or something.
